Q & A Hair Care at Christiaan Salon

Q & A Hair Care

The following questions and answers come from asking our staff about questions that clients ask a lot and what their answers were.  If you have a question, please reply to our blog and we will be happy to answer it and perhaps we will add it to our blog.

Q. Conditioning Treatment Tips

A. Many people think it is most important to do conditioning treatments during the colder seasons. It is actually very important to deep condition your hair all year long. This added hydration provides elasticity, shine, and durability to the hair. The hair’s texture is improved and it becomes more manageable. Conditioning the hair can decrease frizz during the humid weather and make unruly, curly hair more tamed. For hair that is color-treated, the color will last longer and remain more vibrant than dry hair.

Q. What shampoo should I use on my color treated hair to prevent fading?

A. A shampoo that is specially made for color treated hair that is sulfate free. We recommend Goldwell Color Glow shampoo and conditioner.

Q. What’s the difference between a gel and a mousse?

Amanda, Stylist/Colorist

A. Gels are normally used to control and tame the hair with a strong hold. Mousses are used to provide volume with a light hold.

Q. How often should I get my hair cut?

A. 4 to 6 weeks to maintain your style. No more than 12 weeks if you are growing it.

Q. What should I use for the treatment of dry, itchy scalp or dandruff?

A. We recommend and carry “Goldwell Anti Dandruff Shampoo.”

Q. What do you recommend for straightening or smoothing curly/frizzy hair?

A. We use 3 products depending on the type of hair. ”DeCurl” is for wavy hair. ”Paul Brown” and Bio-Ionic is for very curly hair. For frizzy hair we provide Keratin Complex treatments which last about 3-4 months. We do not take appointments for hair straightening on new clients without first having a free consultation.

Q. Will blow dryers or hot irons damage my hair?

A. No, not if you get frequent trims, condition well, properly use the hot tool, and use a heat protectant product.

Q. How often should I shampoo my hair?

A. This varies client to client. You should have your stylist assess your hair and give their recommendation.

Q. Does just conditioning and not shampooing have benefits?

A. Yes, for very dry hair, rinse hair thoroughly in the shower, apply conditioner on shaft, not the roots, and rinse, again.

Q. How are the hairstylists trained?

A. Since we are well known as a premier salon, we can choose from the best applicants. They train with our entire staff full time for at least six months as well as attend advanced color training with “Goldwell”. The top “TiGi” trainers come to our salon every 6 months for the latest styles and techniques. Staff attend “TiGi” classes in New York and Dallas. We have the latest “TiGi” video and workbooks for our staff. Trainers from various companies demonstrate their latest products. As a team we are always working together discussing the needs of our clients especially if there is a special problem. (“TiGi” is considered to have the finest schools and products in the world)
