Sheri, owner and stylist/colorist success story.

I would have to say my success story started one day when I realized my father, the founder of our business, was starting to give me more responsibility so I could one day take over the salon when he retired.  I was so use to working behind the chair doing hair and loving it, I wasn’t sure I could fully run the salon without knowing more of the business end.  I started turning to my beauty reps and asking if they had any business classes.  I had attended a lot of classes but it was always about hair. My rep Rob sent me to a class called “Growing your Business” given by a man named Peter Mahoney, president of Summit Salon Business Center.  I had my manager Sacha come along with me and we both walked away inspired.  We came back to the salon and started implementing some of these new ideas.
Sacha and I then attended a four day Summit business seminar in Florida.  It was an intense business class with lots of amazing speakers and it made me look at my business in a way I had never before.  Maybe it was because I understood it better or I just learned a different way.  Summit has been my success story.  I can now feel like I can run the salon and be successful.

One of my most rewarding experiences as a stylist was with an extension client. This particular client had been a client of mine for about 4 years when she began showing interest in hair extensions. She had always had long hair but had cut it a couple years ago because it was thinner than it had been in the past and she felt that would look more polished for her professional career.  After discussing the extensions a couple times during her color appointments we booked an appointment to put in her extensions. On the day we put them in she was very excited, as was I. When we were done she was more than happy with the results, and she became a little emotional. She said she felt like herself again and thanked me for my time. We have redone them twice since then and she has a renewed confidence in herself that radiates to others, even other salon staff members have mentioned this to me. Occasions like this are why I love what I do.

One of my most gratifying moments of my career, as an esthetician, is when I worked with a client who had never worn makeup and was at a point in her life where she felt like she needed a little help.  She booked an appointment for a makeup lesson.  Before we started she had expressed concerns about the makeup and that her husband did not like makeup and felt that his wife was beautiful without it.  I started by applying a weightless tinted moisturizer instead of a heavier foundation. I then applied a light brushing of a natural eye shadow, feathered on a coat of mascara, a touch of tinted nude lip color, which completed the look.  When the client looked in the mirror, she was pleasantly surprised that she still looked like herself only better.  This gave her a boost of confidence.  She received compliments from everyone around her including her husband, but no one really knew what was different.
