What’s trending in hair color for Spring 2015?    Babylights

Soft, dimensional color done with what is being referred to as babylights. Babylights Hair Trend at Christiaan Salon and Day, Providence, RIThis technique blends three of the hottest color trends: ombre, balayage, and highlighting. These natural looking highlights mimic the sunkissed tones a child’s hair takes on in the summer. Many celebrities, such as Victoria’s Secret models Miranda Kerr and Karlie Kloss, have been sporting this look. With this new approach you can add a shimmer of color wherever you desire whether it be face-framing or all over. These delicate accents can dramatically change your look while providing a natural, low maintenance style.

The application will depend on the look you are going for.  Are you looking for an all over dimensional look or are you looking for face framing lightness? For all over dimension a balayage method of hand painting very fine sections of hair is used in the nape area, while super thin sections of hair are foiled in the crown and around the face. Fine sections are taken on the ends of the hair and brought just a bit lighter than the rest of the babylights to create that “summer in the sun” look. Existing balayage clients can make a smooth transition into babylights since their ends have already been lightened.

RIAlthough this is a low maintenance style, it is important to use the proper at home care to keep your color looking its best in between appointments with your stylist. We recommend a Pureology or Goldwell shampoo and conditioner, as they are our leading color safe brands. Also, the use of a heat protector is key in fade prevention if you use any heat to style your hair. Two of our favorite thermal protectors are KMS Hotflex Spray and KMS 2-in-1 Styler Spray.

Babylights look amazing on any color hair and give you that dimensional look you’re looking for.
