After Your Facial: Continuing the Treatment at Home

Although most people find that regular facials help their skin look better, it’s true that immediately following a facial, you may find your skin a bit red and tender. Without proper care, post-treatment breakouts are common, and that’s the last thing you want. But if you know what to expect and are prepared, you can minimize the chance of any post-treatment complications.

Be gentle. After your Facial, at home care at Christiaan Salon and Day Spa, Providence, RI
Following a facial treatment, your skin may be more tender than usual. Skip any scrubbing, and choose only the gentlest cleansers. Treat your skin like fragile porcelain for a day following your treatment, and hold off from any home exfoliation, scrubs, masks, etc. for two days.

Choose products with care.
Following your facial, engage in gentle, non-abrasive products for a few days, to allow your skin to rest and recover. Don’t use a washcloth or sponge. Either would be too rough, and they could also contain trapped bacteria. If you have a Clarisonic, you can still continue to use it. Your aesthetician will guide you in what you should be doing after your facial.

Use moisturizer, but skip the toner.
The astringent is too harsh on freshly-cleaned skin. Skip the steam treatment, too. Skip any skin product except moisturizer. Skip the makeup if you can, but do not skip the sunscreen.

Sunscreen is vitally important following a facial.glotherapeutics-moisturizing-use after your facial at Christiaan Salon and Day Spa, Providence, RI
On the day of your facial, avoid any sun exposure at all, as much as possible. For at least a week following your treatment, you should be extra-vigilant about limiting sun exposure and wearing high-level sunscreen or the new titanium oxide sunscreen. Glo Therapeutics carries many different levels of sunscreen to help keep your skin from getting unwanted sun. One of my favorites is the Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer. It has an SPF 30, antioxidants and a makeup primer built into it. It’s the perfect product! Try to establish consistent sunscreen habits, and if possible, continue them forward, as part of a life-long commitment to skin health.

If your treatment included extractions, your skin will be better soon, but it may be susceptible to post-facial outbreaks. Your treatment will include proper cleansing and protective products, but you should treat your skin with extra care for a few days. If you just had a peel done, using Remedy gel from Glo Therapeutics will help to soothe and calm the skin. Its also very important to moisturize and use an SPF.

Follow good post-facial home habits for your best possible outcome.
By setting a routine that works with your schedule, you can get the best results possible from your facial treatments. Your aesthetician will go over the post-facial home care routine with you, and make sure you have a regular home skin-care routine to shift into after a few days. Work with your aesthetician to create a post-facial home skin-care plan that is simple, affordable, makes sense and will leave your skin looking healthy and clear.
