Questions, Answers & Hints

Terminology of Bikini Waxing:
Traditional: The most modest bikini wax involves the removal of hair that might show while wearing a swimsuit. The waxing starts at the insides of the legs and ends just a little farther in from the bikini line.
Thong: A very tapered bikini wax leaving a narrow strip of hair also called a “landing strip”.
Brazilian: Everything in the bikini area from front to back is removed. But, you may also leave a small strip so you don’t feel so bare.
Remember, you’re in control of your bikini wax. So please tell the technician your preferences of where and how much hair you want removed or left. They can adjust the style to suit your needs and wants.

Bikini hair removal Questions and Hints:

Q. How long does a bikini hair removal last?
A. 4-6 weeks on average.
Q. Can I come in during my period?

A. No. It isn’t a good idea to have a waxing during the period for two reasons. One is that you are far more sensitive to pain during the period and the other is for health and hygiene of the esthetician and others who follow.
Q. How can I get rid of or prevent ingrown hairs?
A. Finipil is the product that we recommend. It is antibacterial and antimicrobial lotion that is applied after the shower. It helps protect the hair follicle and shrink pore size.

Q. What should I do to prepare for a bikini wax?
A. Personal hygiene is a must. Taking a shower the day of your waxing is highly encouraged with particular attention paid to the area in question. Personal hygiene will make the esthetician’s job a bit easier too.

Clip your pubic hair down to 1/4 inch in length. Pubic hair that is clipped down to a quarter inch high is the easiest to remove and that will cause less discomfort. You can trim your pubic hair with scissors, mustache clippers, or hair clippers. Don’t shave it down to nothing because at the shorter lengths the hair is very stiff and difficult to remove.
If you are especially sensitive to pain, you can take a pain reliever 1/2 hour prior to your waxing.
Q. Can I go tanning and get a hair removal the same day?
A. No, it is recommended to wait at least 24 hours after tanning to get a wax.

Q. Can I have a facial and hair removal the same day?
A. Yes, in most cases this will not be an issue. If you have any concerns or exceptionally sensitive skin it is best to wait or consult with your esthetician.

Q. How long should hair be before hair removal?
A. For facial hair removal, hair should be 1/8 inch and body hair should be about ¼ inch, to achieve a smooth, clean removal. It is best to trim bikini hair prior to hair removal. During the summer months, it’s recommended to rebook every two to three weeks for facial hair removal and three to four weeks for body hair removal. It all depends on your hair growth as cycles vary for everyone.

Q. What types of health conditions and medications interfere with hair removal?

-Prescription acne medications such as Retin-A or Accutane.
-Skin care products that contain over eight percent glycolic and alphahydroxy acids.
-Blood pressure medication.
-Diabetes or phlebitis.
-Having had a Botox treatment in the past 72 hours.
-Having had a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment within the past 90 days.
-When in doubt, consult with your doctor prior to any hair removal service.
